Day of family fun at the annual footy and fillies

BOOTS and hooves will be flying at this year’s second annual Footy and Fillies Day at Bassett Park.

The Roma State College P&C are once again hosting the event which helps raise much needed funds for sporting facilities across the school’s three campuses.

Roma Footy and Fillies committee chair Sarah Cameron said she was very much looking forward to the event and was thankful for all the support so far.

“We are extremely excited by the very generous support from local businesses and families,” Ms Cameron said.

“This will not only benefit our own school community but hundreds more who participate in the many inter-school, regional and state sporting events hosted on our grounds throughout the year.”

The family fun day will start from 9.30am with the kick-off of the Roma and District U8 Rugby League games.

The rugby will then followed by pre-race lunch and drinks and live entertainment from current Roma Sate College student Laura Lavelle and local talent “Venice on Fire”.

“Local businesses have donated some fabulous prizes for the multi-draw raffle to be drawn on the day,” Ms Cameron said.

“First prize is a flights and accommodation package to Brisbane.”

Lucky door prizes include a JBS Australia cube Black beef rolls, Taylors Parts voucher, signed Parramatta Jersey and a wine hamper.

The five race program starts at 12.30pm.

There will be plenty to do on the day with activities such as face painting, sausage sizzle, craft, jumping castle, multi-draw raffle and lucky door prizes.

“It is sure to be a relaxed afternoon out for the whole family and it is hoped that the races will provide an opportunity for parents, family members and the community to socialise and continue to strengthen our wonderful school networks,” Ms Cameron said.

“Our inaugural race day in 2015 was a huge success largely thanks to the generous contribution of our sponsors and the donations received from local business owners.”
