Dami Im named Australia's 2016 Eurovision singer

DAMI Im has been named Australia's second ever Eurovision representative.

The 2013 X Factor winner will compete in the song contest in May in Stockholm, Sweden, following in the footsteps of Australia's successful debut performer Guy Sebastian.

Last year Sebastian, himself a reality TV winner, led Australia to a fifth-place finish in the long-running music competition.

But Im will not be a wildcard entry and will have to perform in the second semi-final to secure enough votes for the grand final show on May 15.

The South Korean-born singer moved to Australia at the age of 9 and grew up in Logan, south of Brisbane.

The song Im will perform will be unveiled by next Friday, March 11.

"I truly believe that the Australian public and Eurovision fans around the world are going to love the song I will be performing in Sweden," Im said.

"I cannot wait to showcase it to the world and represent Australia to the best of my ability."
