Drunk bike rider almost stacked bike and had cannabis in bag

A BIKE rider who almost stacked his bike when police caught him drink driving and with cannabis in his backpack was fined $600 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court last week.

Stuart Mark Ogden was caught riding home at 9.25pm on December 23 when he became unsteady oh his wheels and feet after police tried to intercept him.

The 21-year-old told police he "had a few drinks," specifically four coronas and four Jim Beam and colas between 3.30pm and 9pm before pedalling down on Archer St.

Police found 1.7grams of cannabis in Ogden's backpack.

He recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.09%.

"He accepts he was showing difficulty riding a bike and that was having an effect on him piloting that vehicle down the road," defence lawyer Grant Cagney said.

Magistrate Press fined Ogden $600, plus another $600 payable on a six-month recognisance.

Traffic convictions only were recorded.
