Crocodile sighting at Gundiah reported

A MEMBER of the public has reported seeing the head of a crocodile at Emery's Bridge near Gundiah on Saturday.

Just days after a reported sighting a man on Wednesday posted a picture of a crocodile on a river bank on the Maryborough Community Facebook page.

The picture prompted a lot of discussion with many people assuming the crocodile had been snapped in the Maryborough area.

But the original poster did not specify where the photo was taken and it was not clear if the image had been manipulated.

The post was removed after about an hour.

A Department of Environment and Heritage Protection spokesman said the last reported sighting of a crocodile in the Mary River was on Saturday.

"A member of the public reported briefly seeing the head of a crocodile in the water at Emery's Bridge near Gundiah," she said.

"The sighting was not confirmed."

Wildlife officers are continuing to undertake regular surveys of the Mary River in an attempt to confirm the reported ongoing presence of crocodiles.

"Anyone who spots a croc in the Mary River is urged to immediately contact the department on 1300 130 372 to allow wildlife officers to investigate."
