Cripps seeks CSG solutions
NEW Queensland Mines Minister Andrew Cripps is hoping the LNP government will provide better social outcomes to help Roma deal with the negative consequences of the gas boom.
Mr Cripps was in town on Wednesday on a fact-finding mission of resource regions and said he wanted the community infrastructure program in the Royalties to the Regions initiative to be one of the planks on which to build better outcomes on social 8issues.
"These are issues that affect families who have lived in Roma for a long time that suddenly find it quite expensive to live here," Mr Cripps said.
"I'd be very interested in talking to your local government authority to see how we could make land available for the expansion of the town."
However Mr Cripps said they needed to have appropriate land available for residential development.
"I wouldn't like to arbitrarily open up land which may be subject to significant flooding," he said.
Mr Cripps said the community infrastructure program was one of the three key planks of the royalties to the regions scheme.
"We are prioritising roads, soft infrastructure and protecting communities from disasters," he said.
"The roads to resources program focuses on royalties into road projects and the third plank is very pertinent to Roma which is the floodplains security initiative," he said.
"Unfortunately in the last couple of years, communities like Roma have suffered from natural disasters and are still recovering from them.
"Every second house I see here still has a builder's sign outside it."
