COVID recovery top priority at first meeting of new shire leaders

LEADERS of the southwest are meeting in Charleville for the first time since their local elections today, and a few new faces are making themselves known in the South West Regional Economic Development group.

Following council shake-ups across three local governments, Murweh Shire mayor Shaun Radnedge, Balonne Shire mayor Sam O’Toole, Maranoa Regional councillor Julie Guthrie and Maranoa mayor Tyson Golder have all been appointed to the group.

In addition to inducting new members, hosting mayor Shaun Radnedge said there is a stacked agenda of region-wide issues.

“Charleville is pleased to host our regions leaders and look forward to discussing current issues, like the impact of COVID-19, and to talk about the future direction of the group,” he said.

“We will be welcoming many new members, like Cr O’Toole, from Balonne.

“We will also be looking at the Remote Area Board Funding and prospectus development.”
