Genius thief busted with phone charger stuffed down shirt

A 20-year-old woman went to Big W, stuffed items down her shirt and in her pocket, got caught and ended up in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday.

Mikayla Sarah Roberts pleaded guilty to one count of stealing after a witness and Big W Stockland Rockhampton employee saw a mobile phone charger sticking out the front of her shirt at 11am on July 9.

Police prosecutor Manon Barwick told the court Roberts removed a pair of scissors from their packaging and hid them in her jumper pocket but handed both items to the employee when she was caught.

The court heard Roberts "made admissions she was going to walk out without paying for the scissors but was going to pay for the charger".

Magistrate Cameron Press told the defendant the offending was "completely unnecessary".

Roberts was already on probation at the time of offending but Magistrate Press sentenced her to a fresh term of nine months probation.
