COURT: Man strikes plea deal before facing trial

A MAROOCHYDORE man struck a plea deal on the verge of facing a trial accused of violently abducting his former girlfriend.

Carl Garry Chapman, 33, will no longer face kidnapping or torture charges over the incident on March 31, 2015.

But he has pleaded guilty to assaulting Billy-Anne Huxham, 18, and holding her against her will after taking her from Caboolture.

In Brisbane District Court, Chapman also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at excessive speeds, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary while armed and threatening violence on the same date.

The case was adjourned to July 28 for mention. A sentence will take place at a later date.
