Court to decide on Carmichael mine challenge
A LEGAL challenge to the proposed Carmichael coal mine will be delivered in the Federal Court today.
The Australian Conservation Foundation has challenged the Federal Government's approval of the mine arguing the amount of pollution Carmichael could create was "inconsistent with Australia's international obligations to protect the World Heritage-listed Barrier Reef".
The ACF said the environmental legislation the court was examining had never before been tested in court.
The court will deliver its decision this afternoon.
