Couple robbed at gunpoint in home

TWO men who robbed a Yaroomba couple at gunpoint in a terrifying home invasion will have to wait until next week to learn their judicial fates.

Shannon Bruce Macklin, 39, and Daniel Bert Willemse, 30, appeared in Maroochydore District Court in custody yesterday in relation to the attack on August 9, 2014.

The court heard a man was sleeping on a lounge at the home when he was awoken by a blow to the head.

Crown prosecutor Michael Gawrych said Macklin was pointing a shotgun at his face and Willemse was holding a crow bar.

Mr Gawrych said Macklin and Willemse terrorised the man and his partner, threatening them and telling them the shotgun was loaded.

About $50 was taken from a wallet before the man was forced to drive a short distance to an ATM where he withdrew cash for his attackers.

Mr Gawrych said when police located the shotgun after Macklin was arrested a few days later, they found it was loaded.

A victim impact statement from the woman said she had safety concerns while in her own home.

Defence barrister Jann Taylor, for Macklin, said her client did not remember the incident and the crime, as well as others committed in the same week, due to substance abuse.

She said he was very remorseful for his actions.

His long-term partner and two children were in the public gallery. In the 10 years leading up to the home invasion, Macklin had spent all but about 15 months in jail.

Defence barrister Catherine Cuthbert, for Willemse, said her client had good prospects of employment on release.

Judge Gary Long adjourned the matter until Tuesday so he could consider the sentences to be imposed.
