Couple lose everything in Wallumbilla housefire

UPDATE: The couple who were not home when their house caught fire in Wallumbilla this morning have been notified.

The house on High St caught fire just before 9am, with emergency services getting it under control within an hour.

The son of the middle-aged couple was at the scene of the fire this morning and said his parents had owned the house for more than 20 years.

“They’ve owned this for 24 years or so,” he said.

“Everything of mum and dad’s is gone and some of our (the kids) stuff as well.”

Senior Constable Shane Gillett said he had never seen a housefire this size before in Wallumbilla.

“In town, this would’ve been the first major one,” he said.

“This is the first one I’ve seen and I’ve been here five years.”

UPDATE: A house has been destroyed after an intense fire tore through the structure this morning.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the High St home at Wallumbilla, east of Roma, was fully involved in fire by the time crews arrived on scene just after 9am.

While the blaze was now under control the spokeswoman said the structure had been destroyed.

QFES crews from Roma and Wallumbilla Rural Fire Service crews battled the blaze, along with State Emergency Services crews.

All persons have been accounted for after a search of the property.

Water trucks from the Maranoa Regional Council were brought in to the scene to assist fire crews fighting the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and is yet to be determined.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and rural fire crews are at the scene of a fully involved house fire at Wallumbilla, east of Roma.

The High St structure fire broke about about 9am.

Multiple crews are battling to bring the blaze under control, and have called for back-up water supplies.

All persons have been accounted for, according to QFES.
