Countdown is on to Relay for Life fun
RELAY for Life teams are wearing in their sneakers as they prepare for an unforgettable race.
The annual event, which raises vital funds for the Cancer Council's research, prevention, information and services, will again be in Roma on October 27-28, with this year's theme "Spring Carnival: Racing for a cure”.
Each team will be decked out in colourful attire and will take it in turns walking around a designated track to raise funds.
Not just a fundraiser, Relay for Life is a chance for the community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, and to honour loved ones lost to cancer.
Stephanie Kay, a member of the Roma Relay for Life organising committee, said the event would feature heart-warming tributes to those who have succumbed to cancer.
"This year we are again honouring those we love who have lost their lives from cancer by creating a special photo slideshow in their memory, which will be shown during the candlelight ceremony,” Ms Kay said.
"Since my own cancer diagnosis in 2012 when I was 21 years old I've had the privilege of meeting and befriending several amazing people who are now no longer here because of cancer.
"I celebrate their lives at Relay For Life and taking part in Relay is also a fantastic opportunity to fight back against the disease which affects all of us in some way, at some time in our lives.”
It's not too late to register a team at relayforlife.org.au.
Make sure to gather your best relay crew and join in the fun and help raise money for a good cause.
