Council redirects funds from Big Rig towards floodproofing

THE Maranoa Regional Council has redirected hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of funds away from development projects on the Big Rig towards flood mitigation projects.

The council voted to reallocate $219,500 from the Big Rig Tourist Train Bridge Refurbishment Projects towards flood mitigation in a special meeting on October 7.

It was moved that these funds would not be required in the 2020/21 financial year and that the process should begin to potentially approve a borrowing of funds from the Big Rig project.

The motion was passed unanimously 8-0 in the meeting, with Cr Wendy Taylor being absent.
