Maranoa Council hits back at untidiness complaints

MARANOA Regional Council has defended its maintenance program after an avalanche of criticism on the Western Star Facebook site.

Janet Hogarth started the ball rolling when she commented on the "disgusting state" of footpaths and the grass around town.

"I understand the council are understaffed but something needs to be done - how about work for the dole get out there and do some whipper-snipping," Janet said.

"Have some pride in the appearance of our town."

Janet's comment attracted 135 likes and 35 comments as others agreed the town was looking messy.

A council representative has responded by saying work schedules were behind in the short holiday break when council operations were closed.

"All staff are now back on deck and we will soon be back to our regular schedules," the representative said.

"As part of our business improvement program at council, we are also undertaking a review of our service levels and works priorities across the entire organisation.

"This will ensure that our schedule aligns with our councillors' current priorities."
