Competitors to battle it out twice at the Roma Double Tri

TRIATHLON: The Roma Triathlon Festival is back this weekend with competitors from throughout Queensland battling it out, twice, in a bid to take home some prizemoney.

The premier event is the Royal on 99 Roma Double Tri - two back-to-back Sprint Distance events on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

The Saturday leg of the Double Tri marks the culmination of the 2018-19 Peartland Western Downs Sprint Tri Series, been fought between members of the Toowoomba, Dalby, St George, Warwick and Maranoa triathlon clubs and will decide the series winners.

Maranoa Triathlon and Multisport Club president Margaret Lyons said with more than 150 competitors expected to roll up on the day, the town is in for a great weekend of racing.

"This series has seen a high level of competition throughout and the Roma leg will be no different,” Lyons said.

"We are extremely excited to host this event.

"In the past couple of years our participant numbers have increased and have increased in the doubles also, so people are taking the opportunity to come to spend the whole weekend in Roma, which is great for the town as well for our local triathlon club.

"We encourage everyone to have a go, anyone can race, please visit our Facebook page for more information.”

Lyons said there was significant prizemoney.

"For the double and the sprint there is prizemoney up for grabs for first, second and third in the male, female and open team categories.”
