Committal date set for Mitchell police attempted murder case

THE case of a man charged with the attempted murder of a police officer in Mitchell has been set for committal mention on February 13.

Kyle Lemon appeared from prison by video link in front of Roma Magistrates Court this morning.

Mr Lemon appeared at 9.30am only for his lawyer to be absent at Toowoomba Magistrates Court. The matter was delayed by an hour so the lawyer could appear.

When the matter resumed at 10.30am, Mr Lemon's lawyer asked Magistrate Hogan for a committal mention on Wednesday, February 13.

Magistrate Michael Hogan granted the request but queried whether Mr Lemon would be needed to appear again by videolink.

No application was made for bail nor was a plea entered.

Mr Lemon, 24, was charged after the attempted shooting of a police officer in Mitchell on December 3.

Police alleged the officer was shot at on several occasions, shattering the front passenger window with at least two projectiles passing through the driver's side of the vehicles windscreen.

The officer was able to exit the vehicle and take cover.

The constable received abrasions to his left forearm and right elbow.

Mr Lemon was arrested later in relation to the matter near the Maranoa River.
