COMING SOON: New Netball competition for Roma players
NETBALL players in the Maranoa are able to get back into the game after COVID-19 restrictions have begun to ease.
Maranoa Netball Association has decided to expand this year’s netball competitions in some brand new categories, including Mixed Comp, open girl’s, and the usually under 6’s - under 12’s teams.
Players will compete in the Toowoomba competition and will play in locations throughout the Darling Downs and South West.
Coach co-ordinator Ang Pollock said there is now an opportunity for older players to compete.
“Traditionally, netball has finished after a player turns 15 and then the only games available is in the local ladies’ Thursday night comp,” she said,
“But for those girls too old for our Saturday morning and not wanting to jump into the ladies’ comp, there isn’t really much netball for them.”
Despite being the first time the Netball Association has offered teams of these age groups, the competitions have been pushed back until at least August.
The players will begin weekly training sessions from Wednesdays at Bassett Park in the lead up to the competitions both locally and closer to Toowoomba.
Dates are expected to be on August 2 in Warwick, August 30 in Laidley, October 11 and November 1 in Toowoomba.
