Classic cars cruise Roma
RESIDENTS at Pinaroo Retirement Village were paid a special visit on Friday from weary travellers of the Classic Outback Endurance Rally Club of Australia.
The club arrived in Roma on Day 24 of the 28-day rally, having travelled around Australia raising funds for various organisations and charities with Pinaroo the next in line, receiving $1000.
President Rhys Timms said the club had been blessed by the assistance of many people throughout their travels, so members decided to host various quizzes and activities in the preceding days to come up with the donation.
"We've had so much assistance from people who have asked for nothing return during our adventures,” he said.
"We have friends of this facility and decided to do some fundraising, which is just our way of paying it back.”
Many of the vehicles were extremely rare and old, standing the test of time and the Australian outback on their journey to Roma
"The oldest vehicles we have are 1920s Bentleys which are also probably our most expensive, a 1928 Chrysler 75 and a 1934 Ford Tudor,” Mr Timms said.
Australia's oldest man Dexter Kruger who was wheeled out to have a look at some of the old vehicles, He would have been 18 when the 1928 Bentley was first produced.
