Cities too good for St George
THE Saints A-grade side has gone down to the Cities for the second time this season, falling 42-0 at Rowden Park, St George, for the Rize Up round.
The last time these two teams met, the score was a huge blow-out with the Cities charging to a 92-0 victory at Arthur Beetson Oval.
The home team gave an improved effort on Sunday, but the final score of 42-0 was still another big win for a Cities side with title aspirations.
However, what was encouraging for the St George side was the lack of a second half blow-out which proved costly for the Saints in the previous fixture.
The Saints remain second last on the ladder, hovering just above the Miles Devils.
It was better news for the Saints reserve grade side, with an emphatic 40-10 victory - their second against the Cities this season.
The result means the reserves sit third on the ladder behind Chinchilla Bulldogs and the Wallumbilla-Surat Red Bulls.
While the football was fierce on the field, both teams came together for a worthy cause with the Masters team holding a raffle to raise funds for domestic violence charity group Rize Up, with Care Balonne helping to facilitate the day.
Rize Up events manager Kim Burgess said everyone made the day a memorable one.
"It was such a fabulous day,” she said.
"Country towns are so friendly, everyone wants to pull together, especially with such a serious issue such as domestic violence.
"It was great to talk to the service managers from Care Balonne about all the wonderful work they're doing in the community.”
