Centurion celebrates birthday
DORIS Foster celebrated an impressive milestone on the weekend surrounded by family and friends as she reached the ripe old age of 100.
A mother of two, grandmother of seven and a great-grandmother of nine, Ms Foster celebrated the occasion with lunch at the Maranoa Cultural Centre Saturday afternoon.
Born in Sydney on March 4, 1918, Doris was adopted by a couple at six months before moving to Womalilla, Queensland.
"Mum was a war orphan and didn't know she had a half brother until she was 72, but he has since passed,” Doris' daughter Lyn Donaghey said.
"She then married my father when she was 22 and they were married for 37 years before he passed away.”
Ms Donaghey said her mum was a stay-at-home mum when growing up, a keen gardener who enjoyed going to Senior Citizens and helped raise other children.
"She is a woman of essence and a true gift to the world and an incredible 100-year-old,” Ms Donaghey said.
"I have never heard a mean word from her and never complained and she used to say if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.”
Throughout Ms Foster's life she endured plenty of floods, including having her house flooded three times.
"At one stage she was only in her house for a month after a flood before she was flooded again, but she never once complained about losing all her belongings or photos,” Ms Donaghey said.
