Roma love story stands the test of time
BOB White knows the secret to a long and happy marriage and isn't afraid to share it.
"Never answering back - it is successful, I can guarantee it," he said.
Bob and Gloria White celebrated 60 years of marriage with a family barbecue on Saturday evening at Golden Green, north of Roma.
Gloria is the first to admit that 60 years is a long time.
"You wouldn't get 60 years if you murdered someone," she joked.
Bob and Gloria were married in Roma at the Methodist Church on February 19, 1954.
They met in Injune, where Gloria's father ran a garage.
Gloria's first husband, Ron Glasby, was killed in a car accident at Charleville at the age of 23 in 1952, leaving her with two little babies.
Gloria's two children Viv and Lois were cared for by Bob as if they were his own, and the couple welcomed a third child Steve, in November of 1954.
The couple owned Injune Transport for 30 years, and then grazing property Timor for 20 years before retiring to Banool, 12kms north of Roma.
They said they never let the sun go down on their anger, and still give each other a good night kiss every night before going to sleep.
"We have never gone to bed cranky or after saying a bad word to one another," Bob said.
