Cathy Freeman's foundation work recognised at awards

ATHLETICS: Sydney 2000 Olympic champion and former Mackay runner Cathy Freeman was awarded the International Olympic Committee Women and Sport Award for the Oceania region, for her works through her foundation.

The prestigious award honours individuals that work to develop, encourage and strengthen the participation of women and girls in sport at all levels.

The purpose of the Cathy Freeman Foundation is to close the education gap between indigenous and non-indigenous children, and provide pathways to a brighter future.
