Locally-owned Cafe 54 secure Roma Airport food deal

CAFE 54 has come to the rescue of hungry Roma airport patrons, having taken over the tender for the cafe at the site.

Co-owners Glenda and Andrew Spinks will be open seven days a week at least an hour before flights begin to serve sushi, coffee, hot and cold food, all made the day it's served.

Mr Spinks said they were disappointed to miss out on the tender two years ago, but were looking to the future.

"We were unlucky the first time - but this time us locals were lucky," he said.

"We're excited for a couple of aspects - we're going to be hiring another person or maybe two to help run it.

"We'll be there every flight seven days a week, open an hour before.

"We're doing sushi, fresh sandwiches, hot dishes as well and all the Café 54 standards."

Mr Spinks said they would also have their liquor licence approved for the site within the first quarter of 2016.

"We're looking at the future and we'll be here for the long term," he said.
