Caboolture High student's financial fight to graduation

YEAR 12 has been a tough year for Stephanie Walters.

Like most other 17-year-olds, she's had to contend with the stress of study, assignments, and looming end-of-year exams - but Steph's stress stems from a different source.

After her mother Anne-Marie split with her fiancée in March, the mum and daughter duo have been financially stricken.

"My mum separated from her partner and she lost her work so she no longer works," the Caboolture High student said.

Multiple bulging discs in Anne-Marie Walter's neck thanks to the pressure they put on her spine.

While she sits on a surgical waiting list, working and even driving for longer than half an hour leaves the fifty-year-old mum in excruciating pain.

After Steph's father passed away when she was eight, Steph said she had always hoped to make her father proud by making the most of her final year.

Due to low finances, Steph has missed out a lot in her final year -but the crushing blow is the possibility that she may not be able to attend her own end-of-year formal.

With the bills piling up, Steph decided she would take matters into her own hands to keep a roof over their heads, setting up a GoFundMe account.

"My mum was always stressed and it was stressing me out seeing her and not being able to support me so I had to something about it," she said.

Anne-Marie said when she discovered what her daughter had done she was reduced to tears.

"I've never wanted her to have to worry about money," Ms Walters said.

Although times have been tough, the pair are determined to get through it.

"We'll get through it together, that's for sure," Anne-Marie said.

"We're family, we'll stick together no matter what."
