BUSHkids in the city to celebrate 80 years

THE group normally enriches rural children's lives through their free allied health services.

But during BUSHkids' 80-year celebrations it turned its attention to adults.

The not-for-profit community organisation gave out 80 special pens made to mark the milestone.

One went to Charlie and Lesley Wilson grandchildren of the founder, Sir Leslie Orme Wilson.

Sir Leslie was a Queensland governor.

Southern Downs MP Lawrence Springborg, Bundaberg MP Leanne Donaldson and Nanango MP Deb Frecklington also received the coveted pens.

BUSHkids, or Royal Queensland Bush Children's Health Scheme, has centres in Bundaberg, Dalby, Emerald, Inglewood, Mount Isa and Warwick.

The organisation helps rural and remote children who are experiencing some behavioural, emotional, social or developmental difficulties.

Although its focus is on children's health, it also provides parent support and development programs and therapy services for children and their families.

Their teams comprise a psychologist, speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist and family health support worker.

The organisation provides therapy services to both children and their families.
