Pure Land Learning College's proposed new complex on the outskirts of Toowoomba.

PURE Land Learning College's latest expansion plans have been locked in.

Toowoomba Regional Council has approved the Buddhist organisation's development application for an eco-friendly school and meditation centre.

The school will include classrooms, a prayer hall, an 80-bed student dormitory, a 24-bed staff dormitory and 14 cottages.

It will be located 19km north of Oakey on the Oakey-Mt Darry Rd.

Pure Land Learning College wants to make the school self-sustainable in terms of energy and food production.

It will be built over several stages and is aimed at expanding on the college's work in Toowoomba.

"The Learning College will ultimately provide classes for Preparatory to Year 12 students and the development also includes a prayer hall for meditation purposes for staff and students that will not operate as a separate religious facility," the development proposal reads.

"Once a year, the Learning College will host a conference that will require the transportation of delegates by coach to this site from Pure Land's existing accommodation facilities in Toowoomba."

Pure Land's activities have been largely restricted to spiritual and multicultural activities.

Council's Development Assessment Panel approved the development application during a meeting at City Hall last week.
