Brumbies wary of ‘Tongan Thor’

RUGBY UNION: Brumbies flanker Scott Fardy believes the physicality of tonight’s Super Rugby clash with the Reds in Canberra will be high, with the “Tongan Thor” ready to explode for Queensland off the bench.

The Reds have struggled this year but their strengths are in the line-out and scrum set pieces up front, and the visitors are bringing a physically imposing bench to the nation’s capital.

Taniela “Tongan Thor” Tupou headlines Queensland’s interchange, tipping the scales at 135kg.

Wallaby second-rower Kane Douglas is back from a knee injury and will make his long-awaited Reds debut, and fellow Australian representative and No.8 Leroy Houston are the other bench weapons.

“Leroy’s a quality player and Kane ... when he gets back to his full fitness, he’s a real damaging player,” Fardy said.

“It’s going to be a real challenge for our finishers because at the end of the day we’re going to need them to bring us home.”
