One dead after ute and motorbike crash on Bruce Hwy
UPDATE 5.26pm: POLICE at the scene of the crash north of Sarina have confirmed a 37-year-old New South Wales man has died in a crash between a motorcycle and a ute.
Sergeant Marilyn Jackson from Northern Beaches Police Station said about 3pm this afternoon the motorbike was travelling southbound along the Bruce Highway at Alligator Creek when it lost control.
"As he's (the rider) approached the bridge it appear he's lost control, an oncoming utility (was) travelling southbound, they've collided and at this stage there's a 37-year-old male person deceased at the scene.
"At this stage (the ute driver) he's been taken to hospital, I believe, for follow-up."
The highway at Alligator Creek, about 20km north of Sarina, remained closed in both directions at time of publication.
A Mackay Base Hospital spokeswoman said the ute driver, a 66-year-old man, remained in a stable condition.
UPDATE 4.37pm: A patient has been taken in a stable condition to Mackay Base Hospital following reports of a crash involving a car and motorcycle on the Bruce Highway at Alligator Creek, according to Queensland Ambulance Service.
Police have not yet confirmed reports another motorist involved has died.
A spokeswoman for Queensland Police Service said the highway would be closed for at least a "couple of hours" while the Forensic Crash Unit investigated.
INITIAL: The Bruce Hwy, south of Mackay, is expected to be shut for up to two hours after a multi-vehicle crash.
Emergency services are on scene and it's believed a motorbike and car are involved.
The crash occurred just after 3pm.
