Brown and Stewart to be re-elected

In contract to the tight situation in Maranoa where 25 votes separate the top three, the other main south west elections seem more clear cut.

In Western Downs, incumbent Mayor Ray Brown looks certain to be re-elected for another four years leading challenger Ian Staines 60-40 percent with three-fifths of the votes counted.

Mr Brown was polling 6115 votes (59.50%) compared to Ian Staines 4146 (40.41%).

Elsewhere Donna Stewart is polling three out of every four votes in Balonne to be comfortably re-elected while vacant Mayoral robes in Murweh (Charleville) looks likely to go to Denis Cook with 37.81% ahead of Blue Bredhauer with 26.97% and Frank Jongkind 26.24
