Yuleba Extravaganza opens street murals and Bendemere Walk

YULEBA'S Yuletide celebration provided two additional reasons to make the community proud.

Crowds were there for the Yuleba Christmas Extravaganza with markets, food and a jumping castle provided by Apex.

But the occasion was also the excuse to formally open the Bendemere Trail and cut the ribbon on the beautiful new town murals.

Stephenson St has been doing it tough after the grocery store and butchery closed but the Regional Arts Development Fund- sponsored murals have improved it aesthetically.

The murals depict scenes from an earlier Yuleba when there was three pubs and a wheelwright in town.

The new walking trail is another exciting development for Yuleba.

The trail which does a loop around the railway line is a tribute to the old Bendemere Shire which operated from 1911-2008 and which itself was named for Bendemere Station, an original pastoral lease in the region.

Yuleba Development Group president Paul Masson hailed the opening of both the mural and the trail as a significant day for the town.

Mr Masson cut the tape with Maranoa Mayor Rob Loughnan. Cr Loughnan said the trail is part of the regional trails strategy which includes the Harry Thompson Walk in Wallumbilla.
