UPDATE: Cyclist, 78, killed in freak accident
POLICE are investigating the cause of a freak accident that killed a cyclist on Torquay Terrace on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called about 5.30pm after the rider, from Torquay, collided with back of a ute parked on the road between Lincolnfield and Bideford streets at Torquay.

Witnesses told paramedics they saw the man cycling downhill before turning around and cycling uphill when he collided with the ute.

Paramedics and police both said it was not clear if the man, 78, had suffered a medical episode prior to colliding with the ute.

The cause of his death is unknown as he had no visible trauma marks.
Hervey Bay Ambulance Station advanced care paramedic Warren Pickering said paramedics performed CPR for about half an hour but were unable to resuscitate him.

"On arrival we had bystanders doing CPR to an elderly male patient who at this stage appears to have run up the back of a parked car," Mr Pickering said.
"QAS attempted all resuscitation processes and unfortunately we were unable to do so and condolences go out to the family."
An anaesthetist from the Hervey Bay Hospital also assisted paramedics.
UPDATE 6.40PM TUESDAY:
Paramedics and police have both confirmed a cyclist has died on Torquay Terrace this evening.
Emergency services arrived on the scene about 5.30pm and performed CPR on the male cyclist, believed to be in his 60s, until 6pm when he was declared dead.
Police and paramedics believe the man has collided with the back of a parked ute along Torquay Tce between Lincolnfield and Fraser Sts.

Initial reports indicate a cyclist has been involved in a traffic incident along Torquay Tce between Lincolnfield and Fraser St about 5.30pm.
Three police cars and two ambulances are currently on the scene.
