Council staffer charged by corruption watchdog

UPDATE: A former executive officer to Paul Pisasale and current Ipswich City Council staff member is the latest to face charges by the Crime and Conduct Commission.

Ben Hayward was yesterday charged at the Ipswich watch-house with one count of Misconduct in Public Office contrary to section 92A of the Criminal Code.

Since the mayoral by-election, in which Andrew Antoniolli was elected to office, Mr Hayward's position has been a senior advisor within the office of the mayor.

Ipswich City Council said it was aware that one of its administration staff had been charged today by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Acting Mayor Wayne Wendt said no action would be taken at this stage in relation to the staff member's employment.

He said it was important to allow the legal process to take place.

"Until such time as there's a definitive outcome, we will respect our employee's presumption of innocence," he said.
