Breaking into club for booze nets fine

A ROMA man has paid a high price for helping himself to several alcoholic drinks after breaking into The Zone nightclub.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Heather Whiting told the Roma Magistrates Court on Tuesday that Clay Jackson, 19, entered the nightclub on May 15 by scaling the roof and climbing down through the kitchen.

She said Jackson walked into the bar area and poured three Vodka Cruisers into cups. The court heard Jackson drank the drinks before leaving the club with two bottles of spirits.

The next day, Jackson was taken to the Roma Police Station where he told police he was unable to remember breaking into the club after leaving the Commonwealth Hotel earlier in the night.

Magistrate James Blanch said he took into account the defendant's early guilty plea, out of character behaviour and apology to the Club Hotel, which operates The Zone nightclub

He fined Jackson $650 with no conviction recorded.

The magistrate also warned the defendant that if he had a problem with alcohol he should stay away from it, also adding he should particularly avoid Vodka Cruisers.
