Bowser Battles: Find the cheapest petrol in the Maranoa
MARANOA fuel prices are considered one of the cheapest in the Queensland, but a price correction with retailers has pushed the price of petrol up.
The Western Star investigated who's being ripped off at the bowser in the Maranoa.
On Wednesday, February 27, the fuel prices for unleaded and diesel were checked across every petrol station in the Maranoa with Caltex Roma, Raglan St coming in the cheapest for unleaded at $1.16.9 cents per litre and the most expensive was Caltex Surat at $1.55.9.
However, retail margins in Maranoa are among some of the cheapest in the state.
RACQ spokeswoman Lucinda Ross said Miles had the cheapest average unleaded price across Queensland for the past two years now.
The 2018 average price was 141.6c/l which was about two cents cheaper than in Brisbane at 143.9c/l.
"Miles also took the crown for the cheapest diesel last year, with an average of 145.1c/l - this was about five cents per litre less than the Brisbane average,” Ms Ross said.
"While Roma's average unleaded price was higher than Miles' at 149.1c/l, it's average diesel price still came in well under Brisbane's at 148.5c/l.
"The average margins on unleaded and diesel last year were at 6.3c/l and 5.9c/l respectively.
"This is a sure sign local service stations are passing on savings to their customers.
Ms Ross said in regional centres price cycles remain relatively flat and stable, with any price changes generally occurring gradually and over time.
"Occasionally, we see a price correction, where they jump usually about 10 cents due to rising oil prices,” Ms Ross said. "Currently Miles and Roma are both experiencing a price correction and we're seeing retailers increase their unleaded prices to around $1.29c/l - despite the rise, we still consider this price to be fair and one of the cheapest in the Queensland.”
