WOMEN of the west are encouraged to get on board for their free breast screening, an opportunity that only comes up every two years.

The state-of the-art BreastScreen Queensland mobile screening van will visit southwest towns from April to June.

BreastScreen Queensland Toowoomba Service health promotion officer Alexandra Robbins-Hill said any woman who is due for her mammogram, or anyone who has been putting off having their first, should make an appointment today.

"Appointments only take around half an hour,” she said.

"We actively target women from 50 to 74 years old to have two-yearly screens, as most diagnosed cases fall between these age groups, but we also urge women between 40 and 49 and over 75 to come in for a mammogram.

"The mobile vans have contemporary technology and specialist radiographers.”
