BOM staff set to strike after 3 years of failed talks

BUREAU of Meteorology (BoM) staff from across the country are set to begin a fortnight of industrial action following failed pay negotiations.

The action was expected to start from today and is in response to three years of failed negotiations by the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) on pay conditions for employees at the bureau.

As a response, employees who are members of the CPSU will not respond to media requests or update the BoM Twitter feed, with the exception of severe weather events.

CPSU deputy secretary Beth Vincent-Pietsch said internal action would also take place, such as not answering emails or telephone calls.

"This is definitely a last resort for our members," she said.
