BOM: 'Massive area of rain and thunderstorms' near Gladstone

BOM is telling Gladstone residents that they shouldn't expect the rain and thunderstorm's currently pouring down over the city to go away anytime soon.

A BOM spokesman said thunderstorms and heavy rain is expected to hang around until at least midnight, but could continue until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

"We've got a massive thunderstorm to your west and south-west and they're moving into your region now," he said.

"It's a very unstable environment --- if you look on the map you've got a massive area of rain and thunderstorms in your part of the world.

"Most of it will happen in the next few hours," he added.

Today Gladstone residents survived the hottest February day since 1990.

But he said don't expect the wet weather to bring cooler conditions, with plenty of heat and humidity expected up until Friday.

But BOM is expecting it to finally cool on just before the weekend to 29 degrees.
