Big Rig gets even bigger
EXCTING times are scheduled for one of Roma's biggest attractions after securing a $1.23 million grant.
Roma's iconic Big Rig is set to get bigger with the Maranoa Regional Council being successful in securing $1.23 million from the State's Outback Tourism Infrastructure Fund to go towards the Bigger Big Rig project.
The new project is set to have a focus on adventure, the $2.99 million project will encompass the Bigger Big Rig, a zip line and a tree walk.
The Bigger Big Rig will include a 30 metre observation tower, including lift and stairs, featuring a number of highlights from outback Queensland.
These highlights will consist of Mitchell's Great Artesian Spa, Carnarvon Gorge National Park, Charleville, Quilpie, Birdsville and Longreach.
The Big Rig Zip Line will be perfect for lovers of the adrenaline rush as they tackle the fun zip line.
The Big Rig Tree Walk will include a 150 metre curved tree walk that will start at The Big Rig and connect to the Adungadoo Pathway.
Audio-visual elements will be placed along the walk to make it an engaging experience for visitors.
Councillor Puddy Chandler, portfolio chair for tourism, said this was a big win for The Big Rig, Roma and the Maranoa overall.
"It is our aim at The Big Rig to create lifelong experiences for all of our visitors,” Cr Chandler said.
"This project, with its focus on adventure, will be able to do just that.
"Additionally, it will further increase our visitor numbers to the whole Maranoa region and especially through The Big Rig and Oil Patch.
"We are looking forward to works for these projects kicking off in stages next year,” she said. "What an exciting time for tourism in the Maranoa.”
