Beerwah arson charges before court

A 40-year-old man who allegedly torched a house at Beerwah will front court again on July 7.

Nathan James Cormac did not appear in person and was represented by lawyer and civil libertarian Terry O'Gorman when charges against him were mentioned in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court this week.

Mr Cormac was charged with three counts of arson and one of not possessing the authority required to possess explosives following the March 10 fire.

Two young men who were tenants in the Strawberry Rd house were home when the fire began and managed to escape unharmed but the house, which belonged to their boss, was destroyed.

The court heard that forensic experts were yet to supply their statements to the prosecution and defence.

Mr O'Gorman sought and ws granted a one month adjournment before the matter is mentioned again.
