UPDATE: Four patients still in hospital after bus crash

4PM: A 29-year-old man and 79-yer-old woman both remain in a stable condition in Mackay Base Hospital.

A 23-year-old woman has been discharged from the Mackay hospital.

  UPDATE 1:03pm: Five people remain in hospital after horrific bus crash at Cannon Valley yesterday that claimed one life.

 

In all 10 people were transported to hospitals including Proserpine, Mackay and Townsville with a 19-year-old man killed at the scene yesterday.

Mackay Hospital and Health Service executive director medical services and clinical dean Dr David Farlow said all patients in Mackay were in stable condition.

He said some of the first response staff knew people on the bus.

Whitsunday Regional Council acting chief executive officer Barry Omundson has made a statement from the council on the accident.

"On behalf of the Mayor, Councillors and staff at Whitsunday Regional Council, I would like to extend my condolences to the young man's family and friends," Mr Omundson said.  

"Council understands that a further 10 passengers are receiving treatment at the Proserpine,  Mackay and Townsville hospitals, and we wish them a safe and speedy recovery," he said.  

"I would like to thank the Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire and Rescue, local SES volunteers, Proserpine Hospital, Royal Flying Doctors Service and the Council works crew for their prompt and professional response to this tragic accident."

INITIAL:  A six-month-old boy has been discharged from hospital and nine remain in hospital after the bus crash at Cannon Valley yesterday.

Eight are in a stable condition and one, a 17-year-old boy, is in Townsville Hospital in a critical condition.

A 25-year-old woman who was also transported to Townsville was in a stable condition.

According to the Mackay Hospital and Health Service, three people remained in Proserpine Hospital and four patients were in Mackay Base Hospital.

A 19-year-old Proserpine man was killed and 10 others were injured when a bus that was reported to have 13 people on board was travelling west on Shute Harbour Rd when it left the roadway and overturned near Brandy Creek Rd around 1pm, police said in a statement.

At Proserpine Hospital, a 36-year-old man, a 70-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were in a stable condition.

At Mackay Hospital, 29-year-old man, a 42-year-old man, 23-year-old woman and 79-year-old woman were in a stable condition.
