Baby Amy born on roadside

When Jess King woke husband Tom at 3am on Monday morning complaining of contractions, neither thought they'd welcome the newest edition to their family before they even arrived at hospital.

Baby Amy was so eager to enter the world she couldn't even wait for the ambulance to come to a complete halt, let alone wait until she got the hospital.

The Yuleba couple called 000 and were on the road to the Roma Hospital in 30 minutes but at 5.28am on Monday, January 16, just beyond the road works on the Warrego Highway, little Amy decided it was her time.

Proud father Tom King said ambulance officers Adam Lord and Shaun Styan did a wonderful job.

"We knew there were road works between Yuleba and Roma and the guys did really well to call ahead so we weren't held up," Mr King said.

"It was a special situation seeing as though the ambulance was still moving when Jess gave birth.

"They couldn't have done a better job."

It was a case of déjà vu for the King's as their eldest daughter Sara was nearly born in similar circumstances.

"When Sara was born we rushed 200kms in the back of an ambulance from Cunnamulla to Charleville," Mrs King said.

"That was a long time so I was sure she would be born before we arrived but I guess she was being a bit stubborn.

"But no matter where they are born, it's such an overwhelming feeling."

Amy entered the world at a healthy 3.65kg, or a touch over eight pounds in the old scale.

Both Mum and baby are doing well.
