Avocado Festival a smashing hit
LOVERS of avocado descended on Blackbutt for the annual Avocado Festival this weekend.
Travellers from near and far spent Saturday at the Blackbutt Showgrounds exploring all the fabulous stalls, food and activities this year's iconic food festival had to offer.
From taste testing avocado-themed food, to sipping on wine from the Burnett Wine Alley, the fun didn't stop there.
Those with a keen-eye for sport could compete in the Avo Toss, Avo Roll, Avo Golf or the Avo Strongman/woman competition.
This year the Blackbutt Avocado team took the festival to a whole new height with the Avocado Drop Tombola.
Three dare-devil skydivers jumped from 4000 feet and landed on the avocado target, picking three lucky winners to take home either $500, $200 or $100 as a prize.
The Ken Mills Toyota Street Parade was another huge success, with participants young and old marching proudly for this year's festival.
Nanango MP Deb Frecklington attended the food-themed festival and commended the committee and volunteers for their great job.
"This festival gets bigger and better each year and this year is no exception,” she said.
"We are so fortunate to live in the beautiful South Burnett and Blackbutt is at the centre of that.
"This festival showcases the amazing agricultural produce we have and of course the centre stone is the avocado. You can do anything you like with an avocado - from juggling, rolling, eating and I have just heard you can make beer with avocado.”
"This festival is in its 11th year and has been named the Blackbutt Avocado Festival for the past three years and I think since that name change it just gets better,” she said.
South Burnett Regional Council Mayor Keith Campbell acknowledged all of the crowd for coming along to support the festival.
"This is all about celebrating with the avocado producers in the region and the great contribution they make to the economy in the area through the production of avocados,” he said.
