Aussies in spin after Herath takes hat-trick

CRICKET: A hat-trick for Rangana Herath put the skids under Australia on day two of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.

Resuming on 2-54, the tourists lost Usman Khawaja and captain Steve Smith in successive overs.

Khawaja (11) was bowled by a slider from Dilruwan Perera and at the start of the next over Smith (5) was bowled. If that was a poor start for the tourists, then things only got worse as Herath (pictured) became the second Sri Lankan to grab a hat-trick.

He removed Adam Voges and Peter Nevill before Mitchell Starc was struck on the pad on the hat-trick ball.

After the initial appeal was turned down by the on-field umpire, the home team had the decision reviewed and the not-out call was overturned.

The Aussies were finally bowled out for 106, their lowest total against Sri Lanka, after losing seven wickets for 52 runs.
