Aussie Hotel stages its first Oktoberfest

WHILE her dirndl may have been from the world's largest Oktoberfest in Munich, Bree Hall said St George knew how to replicate a traditional German experience.

For the first time, the Australian Hotel turned into a German beer house on Saturday night, where flowing beer steins, pretzels, bratwurst, sauerkraut, suckling pig and lederhosen decked out the beer garden.

In true German spirit, patrons were entertained and treated to a full German feast, yodelling competition and a beer running race.

Ms Hall, who travelled from Roma to partake in the German festivities, took out the yodelling competition as well as equal best dressed.

"We had such a fun time, I would definitely go back next year,” she said.

"The yodelling competition was hilarious, loads of people got up and had a go.

"There were some good yodellers there. Who would've thought?”

St George local Tarah O'Brien said she was very surprised when she also claimed the title of best dressed.

"I was quite surprised I won as there was quite a few that looked amazing including the fellows in their lovely dresses,” she chuckled.

Ms O'Brien said the night was a great way for neighbouring towns to visit St George and experience a traditional Oktoberfest experience without breaking the bank.

"The Oktoberfest idea was awesome, and it was something different for the town,” she said.

"I can never pass up a chance to dress up and will definitely go back again next year as it was so much fun to get all the girls together.

"The Aussie always know how to put on a good day.”
