Attacking flair from Bulls and Magpies

RUGBY LEAGUE: There was plenty of junior football at Wallumbilla last Saturday, as the Benderoo Bulls hosted the Mitchell Magpies.

Five age groups took the field in a jam-packed day of rugby league.

The under 6s, 8s and 10s played the opening games of the day in front of plenty of football fans.

Bulls club president, Stuart Maunder, said the younger players were enjoying their sport.

"This is the first year we have had the under 6s separate,” Maunder said.

"They are gaining confidence and improving every week.”

In the under 12s clash, the Magpies held onto an early lead to beat the Bulls.

The first half belonged to the Magpies, as they combined attacking flair with strong defence.

Three tries in the first half gave the side form Mitchell a healthy lead heading into the break.

The Bulls had good moments in the opening half, with open-field tackling being a highlight.

The Magpies secured their victory early in the second half with a brilliant solo try from Marty Ahern.

The Bulls had good moments but fell short against a good Ringers side.
