Athol's auctioneering recognised

ATHOL Cleland has brought the house down by finishing runner up at the Raine and Horne Queensland and Northern Rivers Awards for Top Auctioneer Lister while also finishing tenth for the coveted Top Salesperson award.

His awards are recognition for his place within the community, having lived in the region his entire life, while he has worked as a real estate agent for almost 30 years.

"I love Roma and the surrounding district, it's a great little place to be and I'm very fortunate to have had a very loyal group of people that have dealt with me,” he said.

Mr Cleland, who is the longest serving real estate agent in Roma said that all the staff at Raine and Horne contributed to the culmination of his awards.

"I couldn't have done it without the support from everyone here at the office and we have a very good network of doing things here.” he said.

"Raine and Horne has a special plan of handling auctions and house sales for clients.

"It's very basic and very straightforward but it works one hundred percent.”

Steven Goodhew of Raine and Horne said that Athol's visibility in the community and personality were some of his key strengths within the community.

"With auctions, it's a process that enables you to bring buyers and sellers together and creates an atmosphere and that's why Athol has done so well to win this award,” he said.

"He did 12 or 13 auctions last year and through that, you develop new clientele out of that.

"There's people that may not have showed interest in a specific property but will turn up to watch the auction and then those people can put a face to Athol or Raine and Horne.”

Mr Goodhew said Mr Cleland's heritage in the region means that he has a wide network of connections and acquaintances and this remains one his key strengths.

"Athol's knowledge of the local area, being born and bred in Wallumbilla, means that there would be no one that Athol would not know,” he said.

"He's sold houses to three generations now, so it's that rapport with his clients and the ability to relate to them that's generated good sales.”

According to Mr Cleland, the team at Raine and Horn's love for the job shines through in their work.

"Here, we enjoy selling, we enjoy talking to people and I think it helps us get results.
