Anzac spirit marches on in Roma
Veterans, servicemen and women, community groups, schools and emergency services marched down Heroes Avenue on Tuesday morning while crowds applauded them as they paid tribute to the Anzacs and their sacrifices for our nation, both past and present.
From peacekeeping missions to full-scale war, Australian and allied veterans received the thanks of a grateful Roma.
The march concluded at the Cenotaph in Queen's Park where a Catafalque Party of four soldiers stood sentry during the minute's silence, book ended by a stirring rendition of the Last Post and the Rouse.
Hundreds of people of all ages gathered to honour the Anzacs in the service following the march.
Brian Ralph, a former infantry private in the New Zealand army spoke of the importance of honouring the day.
"We are not here to glorify way or praise the victors, but to commemorate the servicemen and acknowledge their self-sacrifice and those who fought the war on the home front as well,” he said.
