UPDATE: Preliminary investigations into the death of a man who died at the Chinchilla Show have revealed he did not die as a result of electrocution, police say.

The 47-year-old Miles man collapsed at the showgrounds while working on a dodgem cars ride and was later pronounced dead.

Senior Constable Ross Olsem from Chinchilla Police said the dodgem cars ride equipment had been tested by an electrician who issued a certificate which stated there were no faults with the ride.

"The investigation is continuing and a report is being prepared for the coroner," he said.

The man's next of kin have been notified of his death.

Some media outlets had reported the death was caused by electrocution, but a spokesman for the Chinchilla Show Society also confirmed the death was not being treated as a workplace incident.

"The ride is operational. Any further questions will need to be directed to police."
