Ambulance officer struck with fist by angry patient

A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted an ambulance officer while being transported to hospital in the Brisbane suburb of Kedron on Friday night.

Police say it will be alleged that around 10.30pm the man became aggressive in the rear of the ambulance as it was travelling through the Airport Link tunnel causing the officers to stop the vehicle.

As one of the officers has approached the passenger side door of the ambulance the man allegedly opened the door, got out from the vehicle and struck the officer with a closed fist.

Police have attended the scene shortly afterwards and restrained the man who allegedly continued to behave aggressively.

The man was transported to the Brisbane watch house and was later charged with one count of serious assault of a public officer and one count of assault or obstruct police.

He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.
