Amazing race for new faces
WITH a quick checkpoint at The Western Star, St John's teachers of 2018 raced to the final pit-stop of the day, having completing a mad dash across town.
The Amazing Race-style activity saw groups of teams travel to some of Roma's local sights, where clues would show the way towards the next checkpoint.
The event was the school's annual pre-term team building exercise which was all in the name of fun, and aimed to get some of St John's newest teachers out into the community, according to principal Donaugh Shirley.
"It was good to include the new teachers and to give them an idea of what's around town,” she said.
"We made sure that all the new staff had at least a local in their team so they could show them around. It's just been a fun way of bonding.”
St John's has traditionally began the year with team bonding exercises but this is the first year that the school has attempted a cross country crusade.
Year 6 teacher and event organiser Michelle Chinnery said the teachers were able to experience a range of environments.
"Through today's activity, they've met the president of the Roma Senior Citizens Centre, they've been to the Southside Store, the cemetery, got a picture with Audrey, the Golder family's dog and even been to Ace Drapers.”
